Concrete paths and pathways
A properly poured path solves a surprising number of problems: safe access to the front door, a dry route to the shed or clothesline, and a clean edge for the garden to sit against. Because concrete is poured in place, paths can curve, taper and follow the contour of your block in a way that pavers can't without looking forced.
We set paths with fall so water sheds off rather than pooling, place cut joints so any movement happens where you want it, and finish with a texture that stays safe underfoot when it's wet or frosty — which in Hobart matters most of the year.
- Curved and contoured paths
- Non-slip broom or exposed finishes
- Fall set so water runs off
- Clean edges against lawn and garden
Patios and outdoor entertaining areas
An outdoor entertaining area only gets used if it's flat, dry and big enough for the table and chairs to move around. We'll help you work out a practical size and shape before anything is formed up, taking into account the door thresholds, where the sun lands in the afternoon and where you're likely to put a roof or pergola later.
Patios are a great place to use a decorative finish. Exposed aggregate or coloured concrete costs a bit more per square metre but the area is right outside your living room, so it's the part of the yard you look at most.
Courtyards, steps and retaining
Hobart's sloping blocks mean outdoor areas often need more than a flat pour. We handle the excavation, benching and levels, form concrete steps with consistent risers so they're safe to use, and coordinate the concrete with any retaining that's needed to make the space work.
Everything is planned so the finished area drains away from the house and connects logically to your driveway, paths and back door rather than leaving awkward gaps and level changes.
- Concrete steps with even risers
- Benched and levelled courtyards
- Excavation handled in-house
- Drainage planned away from the house
Done once, done right
Small-format outdoor work still deserves the same preparation as a driveway. We compact the base, use reinforcement where it's needed and get the finish right, because a patio that cracks and lifts after a couple of winters is an eyesore you have to look at every day.
